PLAYING HOOKY
a performance based on three scenes from William Shakespeare‘s A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Three performers are preparing for a show. They have brought with them a guitar, a flute and a keyboard. But first they must build the wall through which we always speak to the ones we love. Should we be afraid of scaring the audience? How do you play a lion or moonlight? Building upon the ‘rude mechanicals’ scenes from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Maëlle Dequiedt invites the performers to cast their dreams upon the stage to create a new utopian form. Set at the time of the summer solstice, said to be the most mysterious night of the year, Playing hooky can be likened to a roaring bonfire, whose flames we leap over as we dice with death.
