THE DEMOCRACY PROJECT

The Democracy Project is the title of an essay by David Graeber, anthropologist, anarchist thinker, and figurehead of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Faced with the dangers threatening democracy today, he asserts the need to live as if we were already free: not by overthrowing domination, but by stopping creating it, by conceiving a revolution that would not be a Grand Soir but an endless improvisation.

Based on this idea, La Phenomena invites three extraordinary musicians to take up an interview with Graeber for an unclassifiable and highly inflammatory performance. At the dawn of their careers, they launch an assault on his thinking, electrifying his words with music and using the mirror of his struggles to question the meaning of their own journeys, their contradictions, and their place as artists in society.
