I’M OFF TO WORK I HAVE POSTED ON THE FRIDGE ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE A REVOLUTION
In 2019 La Phenomena was invited by King’s College London, as part of the Performing Utopia project, to create a series of performances involving students and actors from the company, exploring the contemporary relevance of the French Revolution and the radical ideas of the French philosopher Sylvain Maréchal.
In the years that followed, the project had to deal with the consequences of Brexit, the pandemic, social movements against the breakdown of the education system, the war in Ukraine and countless personal issues affecting students.
Students and actors from La Phenomena spent a week together performing in an open space on the top floor of King’s College London’s Strand Campus. Each performance was titled from a phrase taken from the Manifesto of Equals. The film is punctuated by the reading of apology emails sent by students who abandoned the project along the way.
