AN ENDLESS IMPROVISATION

An Endless Improvisation brings together three musicians from different backgrounds, at the dawn of their careers to form an ephemeral group. What they all share is that they have all studied at conservatoires. They question the meaning of their journey so far and the road that lies ahead. One night, they embark on a deep discussion, as if they were boarding a train without knowing the destination. The music collides with their ideas and conjures up startling images, revealing what is happening offstage.

The title of this play is borrowed from the anarchist thinker, David Graeber, who invites us ‘to live as if we were already free’, by ending the production of dominance and conceiving revolution not as a Grand Soir, but as an ‘endless improvisation’.

A light form that can be adapted to both stage and non-stage settings, An Endless Improvisation questions the hierarchical relationships at play in the making of a theatrical production. Can we imagine a creative process that would break free of these hierarchies, and what kind of artistic form would emerge? Somewhere between theatre and music, the performance gives free rein to speech and bodies.
