Francisco Alvarado – composer

Francisco Alvarado studied composition at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, then at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, in Stefano Gervasoni’s class. His encounters with Gervasoni, as well as with other composers such as Alberto Posadas, Philippe Manoury, Hèctor Parra and Brian Ferneyhough, were decisive in shaping his personal language and his original musical project. Between 2013 and 2015 he took two courses at IRCAM. He has worked with Florentin Ginot, Angèle Chemin, Marie-Claudine Papadopoulos, Carlos Franklin, Standardmodell, Achtung, the ensembles C Barré, Linéa, Maja and La Phenomena.

He was a laureate of the Musica Festival Academy and received the CMDC prize at the INJUVE Academy in Madrid. His works have been commissioned by the Royaumont Foundation, the Diotima Quartet, the Conservatoire National de Musique et de Danse de Paris, the Messiaen Festival, the United Instruments of Lucilin ensemble, the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Ensemble C Barré, the GMEM in Marseille, IRCAM and the Festival Musica. He was artist-in-residence at the Fondation Camargo in Cassis in 2017 and with the Lucilin ensemble, the SWR ExperimentalStudio and the GMEM in Marseille in 2019/2020. In 2024, his piece REW-PLAY-FFWD for orchestra and electronics was premiered by the SWR Orchestra at the Donaueschinger Musiktage.
